Group Description 1
An Interpersonal process group for adults (30-60ish) who feel like "success" is not everything that they hoped for. Despite having settled into adulthood and found some measure of stability with work and commitments, members feel dissatisfied, depressed and/or anxious. They hope to develop and/or deepen meaningful relationships. Many of the members have difficulty expressing their feelings and may frequently put others' needs before their own. (Private practice, in-person, self-pay; Tuesday evenings, 6:00 - 7:20. Contact 857-302-5512)
Group Description 2
A Group for Couples: Couples get mired in all kinds of conflicts - like hamsters on a wheel, running through the same arguments over and over again. Sometimes, the wheel gives out and the partnership ends. But what if these “irreconcilable differences” aren’t so unique and impenetrable, after all? What if behind the repetitive squabbles were patterns common to all couples? What if each couple could witness and learn about these dynamics with the help of other couples? Any therapy group provides opportunities to learn about relationships; but a therapy group composed of couples gives its members a unique opportunity to gain insight, inspiration and the skills to create meaningful change in their particular partnership. When couples work together, it encourages patience and empathy. This group invites couples to join together to find creative pathways off the hamster wheel and into thriving relationships. This group, co-led with Michelle Schuder, PhD., is a unique opportunity for couples to augment their work in couples therapy with a group modality. (Private practice, in-person, self-pay; Mondays, time TBD. Contact 857-302-5512)
Group Description 3
An interpersonal process group for young adults who are "looking good" on the outside and "feeling bad" on the inside. Members in this group can often point to accomplishments (e.g., graduate degrees, job opportunities, etc.) but still struggle with self-doubt and poor self-image. This group incorporates a regular mindfulness practice at the start of each session. Many of the members have histories of trauma that they are working to overcome. At the time of writing, this is a diverse group in many ways (e.g., race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, SES). (The Brookline Center, multiple insurances accepted; Tuesday evenings, online, 8:00 - 9:20.)
Group Description 4
The Observation Group (OG1) is a long-term, psychodynamic interpersonal process group meeting in-person at the Brookline Center, co-led by Jeff Brand, Psy.D. and Amy Matias, LICSW, Ph.D. The group consists of mixed age, mixed gender adults (predominantly in the second half of life) who are dealing with the challenges of change, aging, and the long shadows of complicated childhoods. This group is part of a collaboration between NSGP and the Brookline Center in which clinicians are able to observe sessions and discuss them with the leaders. Please visit www.brooklinecenter.org for more information.
Group Description 5
Group for Relationships in Later Life: This is a mixed gender interpersonal process group comprised of seniors (ages 55+). The goal is to help members to reflect on their lives and their relationships-- not for the sake of nostalgia or complaining, but to learn lessons that help them engage and deepen their relationships currently. For some members, this involves grieving chapters of their lives that ended while revisiting how to start anew. For other members, this involves finding clarity about how to move forward with relationships that have long histories. (The Brookline Center, multiple insurances accepted; Thursday afternoons, in-person, 12:00 - 1:15 PM.)
